AECI formed to provide low-cost energy to member systems

What is AECI's mission and whom does it serve?

Associated Electric Cooperative's mission is to provide an economical and reliable power supply and support services to its members.

AECI is the wholesale power supplier for six regional and 51 local electric cooperatives in Missouri, northeast Oklahoma and southeast Iowa that serve more than 850,000 customers.

Thirty-nine of the distribution cooperatives AECI serves are in Missouri and they serve about 679,000 electric customers throughout rural Missouri.

How was AECI formed?

Associated was formed in 1961 by its six owner generation and transmission cooperatives to provide wholesale power to the six G&Ts. Those six G&Ts were formed and are owned by the 51 electric distribution cooperatives to provide power and transmission services.

How is AECI governed?

AECI is governed by a 12-member board of directors that is comprised of the six G&T managers and an elected representative from each of the G&T's board of directors. Since AECI is owned by its members - and not by outside shareholders interested only in profit - its mission is to provide an economical and reliable power supply and support services to its members. AECI's vision is to be the lowest-cost wholesale power supplier.
