AECI committed to good stewardship of natural resources
As an energy provider that draws on natural resources to serve electric cooperative members in
rural areas of Missouri, Iowa and Oklahoma, Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. accepts the responsibility
of controlling the impact of its operations on air, water and land. This policy addresses the expectation
of customers, employees and the communities near Associated's power plants. Associated will continue to
conduct business with regard for environmental protection and enhancement. It shall be the responsibility
of the board of directors and the CEO and general manager to implement this policy statement.
Core beliefs
Associated is a responsible corporate citizen and will be in environmental compliance.
Associated's management will be responsible for complying with all environmental regulations.
Employees will be comprehensively trained in job procedures to protect the environment and understand
the environmental significance of their jobs.
Environmental standards will be incorporated into corporate culture.
Associated expects employees to be aware of the environmental effects of corporate operations and
of their individual actions. Associated's objective is to instill environmental awareness at all levels
of the company so that employees, in their daily activities, will give environmental protection the same
high priority that is given to safety, quality and productivity.
There will be transparency in operations and the implementation of this policy.
Associated has established performance criteria to measure and track performance in meeting environmental
objectives and will communicate openly about environmental goals and performance.
Associated is committed to good stewardship of natural resources and using those resources in an environmentally responsible manner and as efficiently as possible consistent with being a low-cost and reliable electric supplier.
Associated continually strives to maximize the efficiency of its generating plants and to reduce, recycle or
reuse waste products to the extent commercially practical.
Participation in environmental policy debates is critical to balancing environmental policy with economic reality.
Associated will advocate progressive environmental policy based on sound science.
Environmental impact will be included in Associated's planning process.
Associated recognizes its activities, construction, maintenance and operations will have impacts on the
environment. Associated will consider those impacts as part of its planning process.
Performance criteria
Involvement in the legislative and regulatory process:
Associated will participate in the legislative and regulatory development processes related to
environmental issues.
Employee understanding of Associated's environmental objectives:
Associated will assess how well its environmental standards and objectives are being incorporated into its
corporate culture.
Tracking environmental stewardship measures:
Associated will track and report parameters such as net plant efficiency, percentage improvements in
pollution intensity (pounds per megawatt-hour) and waste material recycled.
