Holden Power Plant equipped with dual-fuel capability

Holden Power Plant

The Holden Power Plant, completed in May 2002, is located on an 80-acre site in west-central Missouri.

The 321-megawatt, $123 million power plant provides peaking power to AECI’s member systems, which include six regional and 51 local electric cooperative systems serving more than 800,000 customers in southeast Iowa, northeast Oklahoma and Missouri.

The low-emissions plant has three simple-cycle units fueled by natural gas with the capability to burn fuel oil as a backup. The units are suited for peaking power because they may be started quickly to meet peak power demands, typically occurring in the summer and winter months.

Each simple-cycle unit is guaranteed at 91 megawatts; however, the output of the units can be boosted to 107 megawatts with the injection of water in the combustion process.
