Angie Vire, staff assistant in the Human Resources Division of Associated Electric Cooperative Inc., retired after a 31-year tenure with the cooperative.

"There was a lot of change during my career,” Vire said. “Really, the biggest change I saw was just the overall growth of the company. When I started there were only about 30 employees at Headquarters. There was no Human Resources Division.” Today, there are about 160 employees at the Springfield headquarters.

Vire’s career at AECI began in January 1975 when she was hired as a receptionist. After a series of promotions, she moved to staff assistant in Human Resources in December 1996. Today, only three employees remain at Headquarters who were on the job when Vire came to work.

Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. is owned by and provides wholesale power to six regional and 51 local electric cooperative systems in Missouri, southeast Iowa and northeast Oklahoma that serve more than 800,000 customers. AECI’s mission is to provide an economical and reliable power supply and support services to its members with the vision of being the nation’s lowest-cost wholesale power supplier. AECI is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
