Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. (AECI) presented Desiree B. Parton, Jeffrey D. Scranton and Nancy Southworth of AECI’s headquarters in Springfield with Excel Awards at its 14th annual employee recognition ceremony. Excel award recipients are nominated by their peers for excelling in their work with the cooperative.

Desiree Parton, benefits administrator, received the 2006 Excel Award for Employee of the Year in a Secretarial or Clerical Field. Parton was praised by her nominators for her excellent customer service with employees and retirees. In 2006, she also assumed new tasks, including responsibility for retirement plans for all employees, assisting with 401(k) accounts and rollovers; helping retirees’ families; and processing retirement projections, terminations and retirements.

She also helped educate AECI’s approximately 300 retirees about Medicare Part D and helped employees represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers with a new electronic enrollment benefits option.

Jeff Scranton, a programmer who joined Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. in 2004, received the cooperative’s 2006 Excel Award for Outstanding Community Service. Scranton volunteered to develop a Web site for Springfield’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) that more effectively represents CASA’s mission in helping courts protect the best interests of abused and neglected children. Scranton employed new technology, turning the site into a bilingual site that includes an e-store. Just like CASA’s child advocates, Scranton has made a two- to three-year commitment to CASA and continues as its Webmaster.

Nancy Southworth, manager, corporate communications, received the 2006 Excel Award for Employee of the year in a Professional Field from Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. She was recognized, in particular, for managing communications related to AECI’s proposed new generating projects; the cooperative’s partnership in Missouri’s first utility-scale wind farms; and for communications with AECI’s member cooperatives about rates and industry issues.

Southworth, who joined AECI in 1981, is responsible for media relations; internal communications with AECI’s 635 employees; and member communications with six regional and 51 local electric cooperatives that serve more than 850,000 customers in Missouri, southeast Iowa and northeast Oklahoma.

AECI is owned by and provides wholesale power to six regional and 51 local electric cooperative systems in Missouri, southeast Iowa and northeast Oklahoma that serve more than 850,000 customers. AECI’s mission is to provide an economical and reliable power supply and support services to its members. AECI is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
