The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a public hearing Nov. 13 to take comments on the draft air permit for Associated Electric Cooperative’s proposed power plant near Norborne, Mo.
The hearing will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Goppert Community Center, 201 S. Pine St. in Norborne.
The draft air permit establishes emissions limits for the Norborne plant that are considerably lower than other recently permitted power plants in Missouri and are among the strictest ever issued in the United States for a coal-based power plant.
The 57-page draft permit and accompanying public notice can be viewed at www.dnr.mo.gov/env/apcp/PermitPublicNotices.htm.
Associated Electric Cooperative is the wholesale power supplier for Missouri’s rural electric cooperatives. The cooperative has proposed building a 660-megawatt, coal-based power plant to meet growing electricity demand among its member-owners: six generation and transmission cooperatives that serve 51 local distribution cooperatives. The proposed plant site is northwest of Norborne, Mo., in Carroll County.
