SPRINGFIELD, MO – Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. recognized a number of employees who put forth that extra effort in 2008 during its 16th annual Excel recognition awards ceremony April 28. Employees at the New Madrid Power Plant presented with Excel awards are: Marshall W. “Webb” Manley, Michael J. Statler, Richard E. “Dickie” Bodi, James G. “Greg” Madigan, Dax T. Sparks, Kimberly M. Beardslee, Larry R. Morris Jr. and Michael L. Freed.
The recipients of these awards were nominated by their peers for excelling in their work at the power plant, which is owned by Associated.
Manley, operations superintendent, was honored with the 2008 Excel Award for Supervisor of the Year, recognizing his efforts in evaluating, recommending and implementing a 12-hour shift for operations employees. Manley was praised by a nominator for building a partnership between supervisors and employees to address both plant operational needs and employee work-life concerns.
Statler, a principal performance specialist who tests and analyzes equipment performance, received the 2008 Excel Award for Employee of the Year in a Technical Field. He successfully managed two projects that tested performance enhancements, one for an additive to reduce buildup inside boilers and the other to clean condensers.
Bodi, maintenance planner; Madigan, senior engineer; Sparks, engineer; Beardslee and Morris, protective services officer II; and Freed, maintenance mechanic, received the Excel Award for Commendation for Courageous Response. They responded to a medical emergency in which an employee broke his leg in the coal yard after slipping on ice and falling. A nominator noted that the team’s promptness and skill prevented further injury and stabilized the employee’s condition until he arrived by ambulance at an area hospital.
