Employees at its Springfield headquarters who received Excel awards were Richard R. Burlison, Cynthia A. Bryan, Christopher W. Bolick, Jeffrey L. Johns, James A. “Tony” Gott and Patrick A. Baumhoer.

The recipients of these awards were nominated by their peers for excelling in their work for the cooperative, which provides wholesale electrical power for local distribution electric cooperatives in three states.

Burlison, special assistant to the chief financial officer, was honored with the 2008 Excel Award for Distinguished Service. For 31 years, Burlison has excelled in a variety of accounting positions within Associated, including controller and risk manager. He was recognized in particular for managing insurance coverage and claim payments. Burlison was praised by nominators for his “thorough and encyclopedic knowledge of AECI accounting practices, procedures and policies.”

Bryan, senior human resources assistant, received the 2008 Excel Award for Employee of the Year in a Secretarial or Clerical Field. Last year she filled in for a recruiter who was on a special assignment and met those responsibilities as well as her own related to coordinating the approval, hiring and orientation of new employees at all of Associated’s facilities. A nominator praised her for her cheerful attitude, professionalism, accuracy and promptness.

Bolick, manager of transmission planning; Johns, manager of transmission policy; Gott, principal planning engineer; and Baumhoer, general counsel, received the 2008 Excel Award for Innovative Action Team. They were the key players in successfully gaining approval from the Kansas Corporation Commission to locate part of a 100-mile transmission line in southeast Kansas to improve transmission service reliability. The two-year approval process required persistence, accuracy and professionalism in responding to numerous requests for information.
