FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Joe Matrisotto of Sikeston has retired after 16 years at New Madrid Power Plant, owned by Associated Electric Cooperative, where he was a senior engineer.
Matrisotto joined the cooperative in December 1992, just shortly before the New Madrid Power Plant became one of the first in the nation to convert its units to burn 100 percent low-sulfur coal to improve air quality and comply with the Clean Air Act Amendments.
Matrisotto’s 22 years of experience at Commonwealth Edison in Illinois, much of it in the station construction group, prepared him to take on the conversion and construction of substructures and foundations of the power plant’s new coal-handling facilities, including the crusher house, rotary car dumper and conveyor systems.
Through the years, Matrisotto enjoyed the challenges of equally complex projects, including work on boilers, condensers, fly ash handling system and generators. Reflecting on his career, he said, Associated provides an essential service to the community, and it’s very important that we provide reliable electricity cheaply. What they’re doing is a good thing. A lot of people at Associated are very knowledgeable and capable and cooperative and supportive.
In retirement, Matrisotto and his wife are enjoying travel and time with their sons, daughter and grandchildren.
Associated Electric Cooperative (Associated) is owned by and provides wholesale power to six regional and 51 local electric cooperative systems in Missouri, southeast Iowa and northeast Oklahoma that serve more than 850,000 customers. Associated’s mission is to provide an economical and reliable power supply and support services to its members. Associated is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
