AECI’s Tim Graham receives Excel award for safety at New Madrid Power Plant
Timothy B. Graham of Puxico, a journeyman electrician at New Madrid Power Plant, was among those honored this week at the 22nd annual employee recognition awards ceremony at Associated Electric Cooperative’s Springfield headquarters.
Graham is the recipient of the 2015 Excel Award for Employee of the Year in a Vocational Field. He and other Excel winners were nominated by their peers and co-workers.
“Tim Graham has a passion for his field and doing things safely. As an electrician at New Madrid Power Plant, Tim takes personal ownership of the safety tasks that are electrical related,” his nominator said.
Graham has always prioritized safety, but his path to an Excel award started with the plant’s safety committee. After joining Associated Electric in 2012 after eight years with St. Louis-based Schneider Electric, Graham found himself appointed to the safety committee to represent the electrical shop.
He soon learned there was a backlog of safety work orders for the electrical shop. He took the initiative to talk to his boss and others in management about prioritizing these work orders and getting them done. Then, to help the shop’s planner, who schedules thousands of work orders in a year at the 1,200-megawatt power plant, he pitched in to take a look at the equipment in question, report back to the planner and reduce the backlog.
At the ceremony, Graham said that safety is part of his everyday job, and it’s a team effort, requiring everyone at the plant, to make it happen.
